Cochi: Records of the Kerala Legislative Assembly show that the 251 acres of
land at Panakkad in Malappuram district has not yet been transferred to InKel,
a public-private company. This revelation of the Elamaram Kareem, Minister of
Industries, has become a clear blow to the earlier explanation of the
government that the land had already been handed over to InKel.
The 251-acre land at Panakkad was initially chosen by the education department
for setting up the regional centre of the Aligarh Muslim University allotted to
the state. And the government also informed the AMU of the land selected. But
later, the government took a u-turn and said that the land was of the
industries department and that it has already been handed over to InKel for
setting up a Technical Education Hub.
The Minister disclosed the fact in the Assembly while answering a question
asked by Abdurahman Randathani and VK Ibrahim Kunhu, Muslim League MLAs. The
minister said that the government was planning to set up a Technical Education
Hub in 50 acres within five years and a multi-service park in 200 acres within
10 years in the land. He added that the land has not yet been transferred to
any agency for the purpose.
The government has selected 400 acres of land at Perinthalmanna for the campus.
But acquisition of land has not yet begun. KP Rajendran, Revenue Minister
inaugurated an office for the acquisition of land last week, but necessary
officers have not yet been appointed.
