Democracy, Jaswant, Jinnah and Gandhi

I am glad Jaswant Singh has raised valid questions about partition of India
and the roles of Gandhi and Jinnah.

Going through Gandhi letters and biography running in to hundreds of pages I
didn’t find anything that would qualify him for the title of Mahatma when he
was no better than any other politician.

I didn’t find MKS walking through perpetual draught hit regions of India and
appealing to moneylenders and traders, hoarding food making 200% to 500%
profits, to cut back their profit margins to reasonable level when millions
were dieing of starvation – the most cruel way.

Similarly I believe RSS was founded to protect and promote traders and
moneylenders. RSS too never had poor hungry and starving in mind in,
supporting Traders and Moneylenders and Exploiters that I sometimes refer as
Banias Class.

Every time some freedom movement was initiated Gandhi would sabotage it at
the earliest opportunity.

Gandhi’s Satyagrah was a fraud – he unethically removed everyone who could
potentially challenge his leadership. Freedom Fighters like Bhagat Singh
were dishonored by him, Jinnah, Ambedkar and most qualified to lead India
Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose were eased out in dirty manner.

Even Bhoodan movement was started by Vinoba Bhave after partition. His
experiments with women and closeness to traders or Banias was never
appreciated even within Congress.

But worse of all was his ideas of Industrial Development of India. Gandhi
led Swadeshi Movement to boycott foreign goods was intended to keep angry,
hungry and starving busy, was followed by young and poor – none of the rich
traders or businessman boycotted foreign goods. Against industrial and
military might of rulers, his weapon Charkha kept hungry and agitated masses
indoor and traders and moneylender were thus secure when in Russia every
single Trader and Moneylender was butchered.

Communist movement was very strong in India. Congress and RSS were covertly
protecting Trading or Bania class and were not serious in overthrowing alien
rulers. Even today both are bending rules left and right to illegally enrich
a few families – there is no voice in parliament to oppose RIL except
Mulayam Singh against high price charged by RIL that would translate in to
Rs.6 to Rs. 8 per unit of electricity to consumers.

Gandhi didn’t seek self rule when Britain was encircled by Germany and its
shipping lines were torpedoed. Not just that Gandhi actually opposed any
assault on British when they were most vulnerable.

Democracy

Jaswant Singh is right in suggesting India could have emerged as a free
Union of States than centrally administered nation that eventually led to
partition.

But I wonder why Constitution of India was not finalized before partition,
that would have inspired confidence in Jinnah faction, with adequate
safeguards to protect rights of minorities and guarantee equal opportunity
to all avoiding partition. Jaswant Singh may write another book on this now
that he is free from political responsibilities.

Democracy is most unsuitable for fractured society like India. Foreign
rulers were also smart and regularly offered carrot in the form of
democratically constituted local and provincial governments bitterly fought
like today.

Democracy is very cruel to unfair leaders and equally unfair electorate.
When people vote on communal lines minorities get no representation. Many
provinces in pre partition didn’t get a single minority candidate elected.
Just like Advani after losing the election blamed Faulty Voting Machines
losers felt cheated and believed they would be under perpetual rule of
victors. Apprehensions of the people were correct as we have seen no one is
ready to adhere to any ethics in democracy. Eighty plus Deputy Prime
Minister after his party lost elections under his leadership twice in five
years, enacted drama of resigning but soon asserted he will complete full
tenure as Leader of Opposition.

Jinnah and his Muslim followers could not foresee a third of them left
behind in India after partition would keep out of power Hardliner Party for
56 out 62 years. Even the 1998 win was brought about by false promises to
farmers and poor and every day of its six year rule it enriched few trading
families. It had badly lost two elections – second even more badly. All the
time this Hardliner Party spit venom against minorities but its maximum
tally in 14 elections was 33% seats and 25% votes in Parliament that has now
reduced to 25% seats and 18% votes.

Hardliner Party had to align with 22 other smaller local parties to form
government for one full term at the center.

It was not Jinnah or Gandhi but Democracy that ignited Communal Hatred
fueled by local leaders who either tasted power or lost power.

Surely Jinnah and Gandhi could have controlled “Democracy” and adopted free
India as Union of States than centrally dominated Federal Government. There
were so many areas dominated by major communities.

There is no doubt Jinnah comes out much cleaner in politics than Gandhi who
was immigration agent until 1915. His reluctance to honor freedom fighters
like Bhagat Singh, conflict with stalwarts like Netaji Subhash Chander Bose
and BR Ambedkar, his experiment with women and closeness to Traders and
Money lenders didn’t impress Jaswant Singh, a Rajput Soldier who prefer
clean fight face to face than petty mindedness and back stabbing Bose and
Ambedkar.

Jaswant knew all above and wanted to open his heart – but was not allowed by
his political affiliations. He will have to write again to clear up
historical facts.
