Confrontations in the Aqsa turn violent

[ 27/09/2009 - 12:26 PM ]

OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Israeli occupation police and special security
forces fired rubber-coated bullets and gas canisters in abundance to quell
Palestinian worshippers in the Aqsa Mosque who tried to obstruct a tour of the
holy site by tens of Jewish fanatics.

Eyewitnesses reported that large numbers of Israeli policemen escorted 150 Jews
but were confronted by the Palestinians.

Sources told the PIC that the clashes were witnessing ups and downs during the
day as the Israeli occupation authority ordered closure of the Aqsa Mosque
before worshipers less than 50 years old after many of them headed to the
Mosque to defend it.

The witnesses said that 15 Palestinians were wounded with Israeli police
bullets, and added that Sheikh Abdul Atheem Salhab, the head of the Awkaf
council in Jerusalem was beaten by policemen while entering the Mosque through
the Asbat gate.

Hamas calls for new intifada

[ 27/09/2009 - 05:07 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- One of the Hamas leaders in northern Gaza has urged all
Palestinians in occupied Palestine to wage a new intifada (uprising) against
the Israeli occupation following its settlers' desecration of the holy Aqsa
Mosque.
Mohammed Abu Asker, in a press release on Sunday, said that Hamas would
organize massive marches in all areas of the Gaza Strip in support of the Aqsa.
He urged the Arabs and Muslims to defend the holy site and to act before they
wake up one day to find the Aqsa Mosque in ruins.
Abu Asker finally asked the Palestinian factions to unite in face of the
Israeli "ferocious offensive".
Meanwhile, the league of Palestine scholars also issued a statement on Sunday
warning of the next more serious step mainly demolishing the Aqsa itself to
build the alleged temple in its place.
It recalled that the Aqsa intifada, which erupted in this same month in 2000,
was in retaliation to the former "criminal" Israeli premier Ariel Sharon's
storming of the Aqsa Mosque's plazas.
The league added that the Palestinian people were ready for another intifada in
defense of its sacred places, rights and constants and in rejection of
humiliating dictates marketed by the West under the guise of bright slogans
such as the peace process.

Hamas: Israeli escalation in Jerusalem is a natural outcome of New York meeting

[ 27/09/2009 - 06:06 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri stated Sunday that Israeli
escalation in the occupied city of Jerusalem is a natural result of the New
York meeting and the continued American support for Israel’s crimes against the
Palestinian people and their land.
Spokesman Abu Zuhri called on the Palestinian Authority (PA) and Fatah faction
to stop their frivolous meetings with the Israeli occupation which always
provided a cover-up for committing more such crimes.
He also called on the Arab regimes to stop betting on the American stands and
to break their silence towards the Israeli crimes against the Palestinian
people and their holy places in Jerusalem.
The spokesman demanded Mahmoud Abbas to immediately release all political
prisoners and fighters from his jails in order for them to assume their role in
defense of the Palestinian people and their holy places and to allow West Bank
people go on protests to express their anger in the face of the occupation.
The spokesman also held the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) fully
responsible for the casualties caused by its troops in the courtyards of the
Aqsa Mosque and for all the repercussions that might result from such
practices.
For her part, Hamas lawmaker Samira Halaiqa strongly denounced the passivity of
Arab regimes towards the Judaization campaigns organized by the Israeli
government in Jerusalem, saying that this silence is part of the Arab
connivance with Israeli violations which gives Israel a green light to commit
more crimes against the Islamic holy places.
MP Halaiqa underlined that what happened today in Jerusalem is part of the
political gains achieved by Israeli premier Benjamin Netanyahu during his
recent meeting with US president Barack Obama and Abbas.
For his part, Dr. Aziz Dweik, the speaker of the Palestinian legislative
council (PLC) & the acting President of the Palestinian Authority (PA), said in
a televised statement to Al-Quds satellite channel that the escalating Zionist
attacks on the Aqsa Mosque is a message to all Arab and Palestinian officials.
Dr. Dweik added that this message says that the Zionists are determined to
achieve their schemes in spite of all attempts made by the Arabs and
Palestinians to reach an agreement with Israel.

The speaker also called through the channel on Amr Mousa, the secretary-general
of the Arab League and the organization of the Islamic conference to hold
emergency meetings to take immediate action against the Israeli escalation
against the Aqsa Mosque which led to heavy casualties among Palestinian
worshippers.
He also called for holding an emergency Arab and Islamic summit to support the
Aqsa Mosque and Jerusalem.
Palestinian lawmaker Ahmed Abu Halabia also appealed to the Arabs and Muslims
in a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC) for urgent
action to face Israeli settlers’ attempts to storm the Aqsa Mosque before it is
too late.
Abu Halabia warned that the settlers’ repeated attempts to desecrate the holy
Mosque are part of the Israeli scheme to seize the southwestern part of  the
Mosque in order for them to perform their religious rituals as a prelude to the
demolition of the whole Mosque and the building of the alleged temple on its
ruins.
The Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails also called Sunday on the Arab and
Muslim nations during a phone call with the ministry of prisoners’ affairs to
organize massive protests to express their anger at the Israeli settlers’
attacks on the Aqsa Mosque.
For its part, the Aqsa foundation for Islamic endowment and heritage affirmed
Sunday that the Palestinian worshippers stationed inside the Aqsa Mosque,
despite the casualties among them, managed to frustrate an attempt by Israeli
settlers to desecrate the Mosque.

Varol: Storming the Aqsa Mosque was a test to gauge Muslims' reaction

[ 27/09/2009 - 09:52 PM ]

ISTANBUL, (PIC)-- Dr. Ahmet Varol, Turkish expert in the affairs of Jerusalem
and the Aqsa Mosque, has warned Sunday that the Israeli attempt to invade the
Aqsa Mosque was a trial that could be followed with more vicious and serious
steps in the coming days.
In statements he made to the "Palestine News" website on Sunday, Varol slammed
the Arab and Muslim passive stand towards those Israeli crimes, attributing
such Arab and Muslim default to the fact that Arab and Muslim countries pays
more attention to US calls to normalize ties with the Zionist entity.
"The issue of Palestine and the Aqsa Mosque is the issue of all Muslims because
the Mosque is for all the Muslims and not for the Palestinians only…. We are
closely monitoring the growing Israeli threats against the Mosque, and I
believe that the Jews have exploited the silence of the Muslim world vis-à-vis
their crimes.
Hr explained that the Israeli attack on the Mosque was anticipated as the
fanatic Jewish settlers were preparing themselves for the attack for days,
underscoring, "The Palestinians couldn’t defend the Mosque alone, and that Arab
and Muslim voice should also reach the Aqsa as the Israeli threat engulfs the
entire Muslim world and not only Palestine.
"If we are indeed united, I' am sure that no one would dare to harm the Mosque…
it is hard for the Palestinian Jerusalemites to protect the Aqsa alone because
they were defending the Mosque without weapon.
He also accused the Arab world of failing the Palestinian people as they
abandoned them and gasped after illusive US promises. "How could ties be
normalized with the Zionist entity while the Israeli occupation of Palestine
persists? This is indeed the thing that had encouraged the Jews to storm the
Mosque, so, I think that it is about time for all Muslims to wake up", Varol
underlined.
But he warned the Zionist entity of repeating such attacks on the holy Muslim
shrines, stressing it won't serve the occupation, and would, instead,
strengthening the Muslim awakening.
He also called on the OIC to do something to protect the Aqsa Mosque, and urged
the Turkish government to play stronger and more effective role in this issue,
underlining that the Turkish people pay more attention to the Palestinian issue
compared to the past. He explained that the Turkish assistance to the besieged
Palestinian people serves as good evidence for such care.

Qassem: Israeli attacks on Aqsa are gradual to avoid strong reaction

[ 28/09/2009 - 06:19 PM ]

NABLUS, (PIC)-- In a press statement to the Palestinian information center
(PIC), Dr. Abdelsattar Qassem, a professor of political science at Al-Najah
university in Nablus, said Monday that Israel carries out its attack on the
Aqsa Mosque gradually so as to avoid any overwhelming popular explosion in the
Arab and Muslim worlds.

“There will be moments in which they might come closer to their goal, but will
they succeed in the end? This is a matter of wait and see,” Dr. Qassem noted.
He added that Jews believe that "Israel" cannot survive  as a state if God was
angry with it, and God will be angry as long as the temple is not built. Thus
they believe that the temple should be built in place of the Aqsa mosque which
they view as an impurity, the stones of which should not be used to build the
temple, according to Jewish beliefs.
The Palestinian professor held Mahmoud Abbas and the former Palestinian
president Arafat responsible for forcing the Palestinian people into a tight
corner where they cannot defend themselves.
He also ruled out that the Palestinian Authority could stop its frivolous
meetings and negotiations because Abbas and his entourage fear they would lose
their internationally-acknowledged posts as Palestinian leaders as well as the
privileges they enjoy such as the salaries, cars and trips.

Haneyya urges King of Morocco to call for urgent meeting on Aqsa

[ 28/09/2009 - 05:18 PM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Palestinian premier Ismail Haneyya Monday asked Al-Quds committee
of the organization of the Islamic conference chaired by the King of Morocco to
call for an urgent meeting to take responsible decisions to protect the Aqsa
Mosque.
“The vicious attack against the holy Aqsa Mosque needs clear Arab and Muslim
decisions with applicable mechanisms to protect the Mosque and the holy city,”
Haneyya said addressing the King of Morocco.
“There is a danger looming from every direction and any Arab and Muslim delay
in moving may tempt the occupation into taking further steps that could affect
the present and future of the Mosque as well as its existence,” the premier
added.
Premier Haneyya also phoned today Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, the secretary-general
of the organization of the Islamic conference, and urged him to develop a
comprehensive plan for defending the occupied city of Jerusalem.

Masri: Any Israeli harm inflicted on Aqsa will ignite fierce resistance

[ 28/09/2009 - 10:18 AM ]

GAZA, (PIC)-- Senior Hamas official and lawmaker Mushir Al-Masri stated Sunday
that any harm inflicted on the Aqsa Mosque would trigger unprecedented fierce
resistance, stressing that this would prompt his Movement to double its efforts
to liberate the occupied city of Jerusalem.
During a massive angry protest held in the Gaza Strip to condemn the Zionist
attacks on the holy Mosque, Masri highlighted that the position of his Movement
would be reflected through the blood and bodies of its leaders and fighters who
would not be distracted by any politics or prevented by the blockade or
political arrests in the West Bank to defend the holy places in Jerusalem.
The lawmaker noted that the Israeli occupation deliberately challenged the
feelings of the Palestinian people and the Arab and Muslim nations through its
persistence in attacking the Aqsa Mosque and Judaizing Jerusalem.
He added that the recent Zionist escalation in Jerusalem is the fruit of the
trilateral meeting attended by ex-PA chief Mahmoud Abbas in Washington, who was
warned by Hamas that the Israeli occupation sought to market itself and provide
a cover-up for carrying out its malicious Judaization schemes.
The lawmaker urged the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, and all armed
wings of the Palestinian resistance factions to unite their ranks and to be
fully prepared to engage in any coming confrontations with Israel.
In the same context, the Hamas Movement in the Yarmouk refugee camp in Syria
organized on Sunday a massive march to condemn the Zionist attempts to
desecrate it.
The protesters chanted slogans calling on Abbas and his security apparatuses to
stop the arrest campaigns waged against the Palestinian resistance fighters and
to release them from West Bank jails in order to retaliate to the Zionist
attack that took place on Sunday morning on Aqsa Mosque.
During the march, senior Hamas official Hussein Awawdah urged the Palestinian
resistance factions all over occupied Palestine to swiftly and strongly
retaliate to the ongoing Israeli violations in Jerusalem.
In Lebanon, the Palestinian refugee camps witnessed on Sunday a series of
massive angry marches called for by Hamas and Islamic Jihad Movements to
protest at the Israeli attempt to storm the Mosque.
Similar protests were organized on the same day by the Islamic Movement in the
1948 occupied lands, where the angry Palestinians masses raised black flags and
banners calling on the Arab masses to revolt against the Israeli violations
committed against the Islamic holy places in Jerusalem.
