Post: Conf - World eGov Forum - Paris - 18-20 Oct 2006

Ooops, for those on the e-mail version I let through an announcement without
editing it for the blog. Normally everything on the Newswire@ should come with
my e-mail listed.

The
World eGov Forum combines the previous Worldwide e-Democracy Forum.
Ironically, this year's agenda looks to have more e-politics than the previous
conferences which had more content focused on e-government than e-democracy.

I wonder if they will webcast parts of the conference? Anyone know?

Cheers,
Steven Clift

World eGov Forum objectives: to accelerate and facilitate Good Practices

The objectives of this world premiere is to accelerate and facilitate Good
Practices exchanges both among represented administrations (as of today 42
countries are registered to the conference and the workshops) and citizens as
main stakeholders in the actual democracy.

The first edition of the World e-Gov Forum is the result of the merger of the
European e-Administration Forum and the World e-Democracy Forum. This summit is
in line with the WSIS (World Summit of Information Society) were the concept of
digital citizenship has been launched for the first time ever.

With the creation of the World e-Gov Forum, we are committed to disseminate
this digital citizenship as we are convinced that it is the main tool that
will contribute to eliminate the digital divide. We are convinced the fact that
no citizens are left behind, and that access to the knowledge society will lead
to a profound reengineering of Administrative processes and to citizens
empowerment in politics.

Our aim is to facilitate the move from the closed Information society to
the open knowledge one.

Our committments are :
- Fighting the digital divide
- Generate new citizens trust and confidence in their institutions
- Stimulate e-Democracy
- Promote innovation at all levels of the Public Sector
- Highlight worldwide digital solidarity
- Contribute to a transparent Internet governance.

Last presidential elections in South Korea have been heavily impacted by
Internet, to such a point that todays president is seen as The Internet
elected one . From our Guest of Honor, well have a lot to learn from this
recent experience.

France and Europe will have elections very soon, what will happen with Citizen
and Politics blogs? The mid-term elections in the US will also be impacted by
this new kind of "homo-democraticus?. The World e-Gov Forum is the place where
well learn exchange on these new phenomena. On the other hand, the question
for Public Authorities is to know if they are ready to close the gap with
digital citizenship and transversal services.

These themes, among others, will be addressed in Issy-Les-Moulineaux from
October 18 to 20th. This summit is based on 20 parallel sessions and 3 plenary
ones, during which well have the opportunity to listen to main leaders in
e-Democracy and e-Government

The World e-Gov Forum is committed to take into account news ideas and new
approaches.

We are the new think tank determined to enrich the work of International
organizations such as OECD, e-Forum, UN, EU, UNESCO, the World Bank...

This world wide event will be held on a yearly basis to express its ideas and
recommendations and to reinforce its willingness to have universal digital
citizenship becoming a reality.
