The exciting and quite active UK and Ireland forum is up to 107 members and will serve as a model. (See below for what might be next.) The Nordic countries and The Netherlands have a well-established open government tradition which makes advanced e-democracy, particularly when it come to accessing government information electronically, more natural than anywhere I've visited. In the Baltic countries, Estonia may actually provide its citizens more electronic access to government decision-making (as well as secure access to private data held about them via their secure X-Road system) than any country in the world. As a reaction to past Soviet domination, the Baltic countries (at least Estonia) have institutionalize open government into the rule of law to an amazing degree. To make this a reality, this forum requires co-hosts from each of the countries involved before we can open a space that will encourage both cross-border and national information exchange. Want to be a co-host? E-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit to Sweden It looks like I will be in Sweden in mid-May. I am interested in connecting with long-time Swedish member of DoWire and may be able for speaking/seminars in Scandinavia (see the slides (50MB) I used with the Finnish ministries on Global E-Democracy Trends or my Issues Forum presentation and audio from Estonia). Perhaps we can organize a North European E-Democracy Exchange launch event. Drop me a note if you'd like to connect, organize an event, or plot something interesting: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Steven Clift http://e-democracy.org http://dowire.org P.S. I've been approached about a French-language international exchange and next on my tentative list of regions is Australia and New Zealand, perhaps with additional Pacific, Southeast Asian countires including Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines and Malaysia included. *** Democracies Online Newswire - http://DoWire.Org *** To comment/for links: http://dowire.org/notes/?p=329 To network: http://groups.dowire.org Submit posts: http://dowire.org/submit Member profile for Steven: http://groups.dowire.org/main/contacts/stevenclift ----------------------------------------- Group home for Newswire - Steven Clift's blog posts by e-mail: http://groups.dowire.org/main/groups/newswire Replies go to members of Newswire - Steven Clift's blog posts by e-mail with all posts on this topic here: http://groups.dowire.org/topic/600662 For digest version or to leave Newswire - Steven Clift's blog posts by e-mail, email [email protected] with "digest on" or "unsubscribe" in the *subject*.
