Sites like http://CaringBridge.org help families connect friends and relatives to a sick and recovering or dying person.
I also often comment on how online neighborhood spaces unleash the power of neighbors helping neighbors. For example: http://e-democracy.org/files/forumstories.pdf But what about going beyond helping once or promoting a community fundraiser? What about online tools for a group of community members - friends, family, fellow school parents, etc. to help? This comes directly from a friend of our family: Does anyone know of one website to coordinate volunteer help such as meals, kid care, yardwork, etc.? There is a website for meals only mealtrain.com but I need something that will cover more. Thanks. The story behind this is one of those "you never think this will happen to you or someone you know stories" - http://forums.e-democracy.org/groups/mpls-staneric/messages/topic/myMFIVZsSodEYFu0RKzV8/ - Josef (who is missing) and his wife were guests in our home not long ago. So needless to say, a number of families tied to the school our children attend together want to help out and coordinate how we help. It may well be that a simple email list, Google Calendar and some shared docs is what will work best, but perhaps there in a suite of tools designed for this situation. Thanks. Suggestions?
