Subject: [cfabrigade] Add the CDC Ebola Microsite to Your Page

Hey Brigade and Code for All!

I know many of us are keeping track of the news related to Ebola, and want
to support efforts to stop this epidemic from harming people any further.
Our friend from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Steve Meloan
<[email protected]>, wanted to share this simple-to-implement
Ebola-specific "microsite" that's been assembled by CDC. Please share it
with your networks.

Steve writes:

I'm part of a team working with the CDC and several other federal health
agencies to help promote the awareness and use of their open data assets.
One of the public health offerings from the CDC is syndicated web
content--where embedded snippets of JavaScript code deliver automatically
updated web info to a partner health site. These syndicated content
technologies first came into being during a Salmonella outbreak in the
2000s--when CDC needed an easy and reliable way to disseminate
automatically updated web content around a rapidly evolving health crisis.

In recent day's there's a similar urgency on the part of health departments
to deliver up-to-the-minute info about Ebola. So they've flown into
high-gear at CDC. They now have embed code where any partner entity can
easily present a full-featured Ebola-specific "microsite" on their
page--that's automatically updated, maintains the departmental
look-and-feel, and includes real time news and Twitter feeds. Such a
microsite can be up and running very quickly.

Here's a live version of the concept at NIH (scroll down to see the news
feeds and Twitter feeds):
http://www.nih.gov/health/cdc-ebola-microsite.htm

And here's a similar live version at the Vermont DPH (note the local-site
look-and-feel):
http://healthvermont.gov/prevent/ebola/ebola_hcr_cdc.aspx

These are actually pretty simple to put in place, with just a snippet of
embed code. They can therefore be up and running fairly quickly.

The following link takes one to the CDC Public Health Media Library
syndication site:
https://tools.cdc.gov/medialibrary/?context=e30%3D

>From there, it's just a matter of following the paths pictured below.

1. Pull down under Media Types" and select "Microsites."
2. Click on the "Ebola" microsite offering.
3. Click on the "Get Embed Code" tab.
4. Copy and paste the provided embed code into a desired web site.

If you think this might be of interest to any partner health entities, I
can answer further questions. And my CDC contact is also more than happy to
help on the technical end--in terms of formatting, implementation
questions, etc.

Best,

Steve
