Ironically, as the open gov/civic tech space is becoming more proprietary
with venture investment and pressure to differentiate their offerings, the
long-time engines for sharing and open source leadership in our field are
finding it harder to attract foundation or major donor support. Add to this
growing direct government coding interest/software development, how you
support a non-profit middle layer is increasingly complex and difficult. It
may be that our pioneers need to find some way to get embedded into
universities to now that they have blazed the trail before others were
ready?
