Dear all, Please see message below from World Forum for Democracy Secretariat about upcoming event on 18-20 November. Andreas //// We would kindly like to invite you to forward the attached Call for Lab Submissions for the *World Forum for Democracy 2015 *with the title “Freedom vs control: For a democratic response” to interested organisations. The fourth edition of the Forum will take place on *18-20 November 2015 at the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France**.* The World Forum for Democracy 2015 will focus on finding sustainable answers to threats facing democracies worldwide, particularly in the context of the rise of extremism and the global debate on surveillance. The Forum will engage over 1500 participants from a wide range of backgrounds – politicians, academics, activists, media and business professionals from around the world – and many others connected live over the internet in a debate about the approaches to be adopted at the international, national, regional and local level in order to ensure the protection of freedom in times of increasing security risks. Initiatives and ideas to be presented and assessed at the forum will roughly fall under the four key categories: • How much control kills democracy? • Freedom from fear in a diverse society? • Is learning of democratic culture adequate today? • Is freedom of expression and information a reality? The exchanges on these questions will have as a starting point *real-life initiatives and untested, novel ideas, which will be presented in a series of working sessions (labs)* to highlight innovative and effective approaches to respond to security threats in a way that preserves the basic principles of democracy such as freedom of expression, public deliberation, and the privacy of citizens. Organisations worldwide are invited to express their interest in presenting either an example/initiative or an idea by answering the attached questionnaire and sending it to *[email protected]* <[email protected]> by *15 May 2015*. The World Forum for Democracy offers a unique opportunity to meet and exchange with leading social innovators from all over the world. Funded places are available. Please refer to the attached document for further guidance on submissions and do not hesitate to contact us should you need any additional information. Thank you for reading, and we very much look forward to the proposals of your member organisations. *World Forum for Democracy Secretariat* Directorate General of Democracy Council of Europe F-67075 Strasbourg Cedex Email: [email protected] *www.world-forum-democracy.org* <http://www.world-forum-democracy.org/> *www.facebook.com/WFDemocracy* <http://www.facebook.com/WFDemocracy> @WFDemocracy You are receiving this message because you are a member of the community OGP Civil Society group <https://dgroups.org/hivos/ogp>.
