July Webinar: Creating Your Own Civic Tech Initiative

Ever wanted to host your own hackathon? Or develop an app using civic data?
If so, then mark your calendars for July 13 at 1:30p ET. This CHI webinar
will focus on designing civic tech initiatives. Utilizing our learnings and
experiences from hosting the national Civic Data Challenge, NCoC has
created a landscape review and toolkit to support partners in developing
their own civic tech challenge, competition, or cross-sector partnership.
We will share these tools and resources during the webinar and discuss how
partners can leverage civic health data as part of their initiative. To
attend this webinar, RSVP to [email protected]

*PARTNER NEWS & EVENTS*

*Welcome to Our New Partner*

The Kansas Health Foundation is the newest Civic Health Initiative partner.
Working with NCoC, the Kansas Health Foundation is planning to release a
statewide civic health index report. This makes Kansas the 27th state to
join this effort. We are proud to have them as our partner and want to
welcome them to the CHI community.

*Thank You to Our Campus and Community Civic Health Initiative Partners*

Members of the Campus and Community Civic Health Initiative met at the
American Democracy Project's annual meeting in New Orleans. As the
initiative ends its final year, we want to acknowledge the CCCHI campuses
and universities from around the country who committed time and resources
to measure the civic health of their campuses and communities. We look
forward to continue working with them and responding to what they discover
through these assessments. To see a list of the CCCHI partners, click here

partner Got Your 6 launched the 2015 Veterans Civic Health Index at a
high-profile event that included the Veterans Affairs Secretary Bob
McDonald, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, and leaders from across the civic
and veterans communities. The report shows that veterans are leading the
charge to strengthen America’s civic health. In fact, they lead the general
population on nearly every indicator tracked. If you didn’t catch the
report, take a moment to read it here.

*CHI Impact Survey*

During the spring, NCoC teamed up with Mark Potter from Metroplitan State
University of Denver to conduct a survey of the impact that a CHI project
has on developing partnerships within and across universities. They wanted
to find out what motivates institutes of higher education (IHEs) to
participate in a CHI project and what the impact of those projects include.
Though the sample was small, the survey yielded the following initial
findings:

· 95% of respondents agree that producing a CHI is in close alignment
with their University’s mission statement

· 77% of respondents agreed that involvement in
producing/disseminating the CHI established new partnerships with community
organizations

· 88% agreed that existing partnerships with community
organizations/agencies were strengthened as a result of working on a CHI
project

· 55% of respondents agreed that student learning benefitted as a
result of participating in a CHI project

If you work with an institute of higher education (IHE) and would like to
participate in the survey, please click here.
