1. Sex Line Dollars ======================================================================== March 15th, 2002 1. Sex Line Dollars: Niue's director of Telecoms Richard Hipa admitted to a commission of inquiry into internet and e mail services that excess Niue international Voice telephone lines were being leased for live sex calls. The premium rate services generated around $1.5 Million per year. Mr Hipa told the Commission Judge David Ongley that the live sex dial up numbers were blocked at Niue so local residents could not access them. Mr Hipa is a member of the Niue Information Technology Committee that accused the internet users society of blocking a chat site and government web sites on the internet but permitted access to child pornography sites. The technical manager of the society which is the manager of the top level dot NU domain name Richard St Clair countered the accusations and told the commission there were strict rules preventing the registering of child pornography and the society did everything it could to enforce the rules and close down such sites. Richard St Clair and the society's secretary StaffordGuest told the commission they felt they were being personally accused of supporting pornography sites in a plot to discredit the society's free internet services and considered those tactics used by overseas based government advisers were "abhorrent and disgusting" - more so because Niue was a small community and both had been resident there for many years. __END__
