Well folks, I have good news, but I've got some pretty awful news as well. The good news is I was finally able to use the Keyspan adapter with my iMac. The bad news is, after I backed up and synched my MP 2100 to my PB 1400 and then my iMac, it somehow died. It's been in continuous use since May 1997, so I'm pretty bummed.
When I flip the on switch, absolutely nothing happens. I got some sort of error message about an internal error (I don't remember it very well), and then I think it froze and I think I tried to restart using the reset button on the back. Since then, no response. Changed to batteries - no response. What's worse is that it may not make sense for me to replace with another used MP 2100. In a twist of irony, I've been pushing my state agency to do an electronic calendaring project. We're quasi-judicial, and our administrative proceedings have several calendar events associated with them - these events are entered by clerical staff into Lotus Notes. So I pushed for a project to mine that data and populate users' electronic calendars with those docket events; Notes has a strange PIM that's been grafted into the program, and it's already paid for. It just makes sense, because the data is there, and because schedules always change. And when you have to change 15 events, it doesn't matter whether you're using paper or PIM - it sucks. So the logical next step is to synch that oddball PIM with a PDA - hopefully a PDA that can be synched at home as well. Maybe, just maybe, if I can get hold of a the hardware and software necessary for NCU Windows, I can make it work. Perhaps if Notes can synch to a Lotus Organizer PIM file, not a PDA, I can then synch that Organizer file with a Newton. Seems like anything else would be too much work. The only other alternative I can think of is using a PocketPC with Pocket-Mac, though the thought of sending any more money to Redmond gives me kind of a disgusting feeling. Plus, I looked at a top of the line iPaq today, and found it pretty ugly on-screen. Any thoughts? I'd hate to drop out of this awesome Newton community. -- NewtonList is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> and...
