Howdy,

I have a tool that currently uses the pipe output format to get its job done.
More useful information is starting to show up in the custom user defined
format space and I'd like to move this over to using that... but I notice that
there really isn't the ability to get raw data out in similar to the pipe
format in this mechanism. For example, the format for protocol is %pr and the
result that gets printed with this is a string name of the proto or the number
if it's not in the table... If I want only the number and never the string
there isn't a way to do this...

Soo... to my point, I was thinking that I'd write some code to add the ability
to get the rawer data out of the user defined output format also, but wanted to
make sure that I'm not missing something in my reading of the code, that if I
were to send in a patch it could get integrated into a future version, and that
what code I write would fit into the grand future vision.

Thoughts?
