Team, The *Telecom* Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has divided India into various cellular zones such that within each zone, the call is treated as a local call, while across zones, it becomes a long-distance call.
All mobile numbers in India have the prefix *9*, *8* or *7* (This includes pager services, but the use of pagers is on the decline). All mobile phone numbers are 10 digits long, split up as *OOOO-NNNNNN* where *OOOO* is the operator code for a given zone (which is assigned to the operator by TRAI), and *NNNNNN* is the subscriber number. Number portability is coming soon in india. Then all these numbering plans would make no sense as one can then use any number with any operator. Visit the below link for more information about the country, state and if possible in few cases the district also by giving a missed call / phone no: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_telephone_numbering_in_India Please read the article in above link so as to discuss the pros and cons of Number portability even from information security standpoint.
