SAN FRANCISCO,USA:Google has introduced an encrypted version of its search
engine to ensure that the searches of users don’t get accessible by anyone
else on their network.

The latest version is SSL encrypted and positioned at https://www.google.
com. It has been rolled out gradually, like all other changes in the
security functions of Google.

SSL search implies that an encrypted connection is established between the
user’s browser and Google's servers. When the user triggers a search, the
search terms and results will be visible only to the users themselves and
anybody sniffing on the network.

The launch has been undertaken in view of Google’s own Wi-Fi data sniffing
disaster. The Company is likely to suffer class action in Germany and the
US.

There is a possibility that Google had been working the SSL search ahead of
the disaster as it had already introduced the encrypted versions of Gmail
and Google Docs.

"Also, since SSL connections require additional time to set up the
encryption between your browser and the remote web server, your experience
with search over SSL might be slightly slower than your regular Google
search experience", Quoted Google.

However, Google has clarified that it will still pick up the search data
whenever the users choose secure search engines, in order to improve on the
quality of search.
