A power supply problem aboard the INSAT-4B communications satellite of the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) since Wednesday has affected broadcasts of some direct-to-home (DTH) service providers. According to Isro, half of the 24 communication transponders on the satellite switched off on Wednesday night after one of its two solar panels stopped supplying power.
Transponders are channels of a communications satellite through which data is transmitted. An Isro spokesman said that Sun Direct and DD Direct, the DTH services of Chennai-based Sun TV Network Ltd and national broadcaster Doordarshan, are among the customers who have leased transponders on INSAT-4B. In addition to them, some television channel operators uplink through the satellite, he said. "An expert team is studying the possibilities of partial utilisation of some of the transponders that were switched off and restoring the services at the earliest," said an Isro release. The agency said it was trying to shift smaller operators in to alternate transponder capacity on other satellites. Also two days earlier an interesting news: Beijing, July 8 (IANS) An unidentified flying object (UFO) disrupted air traffic over Hangzhou, capital of east China's Zhejiang province, authorities said Thursday. Xiaoshan Airport was closed after the UFO was detected late Wednesday and some flights were rerouted to airports in Ningbo and Wuxi cities, Xinhua quoted an airport spokesman as saying. The airport had resumed operations, he said. @Yahoo -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "nforceit" group.
