Hello All, I'm seeing some behavior I don't understand at all, wondering if anyone can shed some light. I have two dual 2.5 G5 Macs, identical hardware, except one is running Tiger, the other Leopard. They're on a gigabit switch which also has an dual Opteron opensolaris box running a big raidz2 pool shared through NFS.
Writes from Leopard to solaris over NFS are fast (~25Mb/s). Writes from Tiger to solaris over NFS are 10x slower. Most puzzling of all, if I copy from Tiger through Leopard over AFP to solaris over NFS, writes are even faster than writing from Leopard local disk even though twice as much data is moving through the switch! Are there known issues with Tiger and NFS? Should I just be running AFP (possible?) on the opensolaris box? Any hints on how to diagnose? ifconfig reports the same thing on Tiger and Leopard machines. Thanks for any tips. Jason PS - Apologies if this post is misplaced. It looks like the solaris box is doing its job and that this may be a Mac issue, but there aren't many other places to ask questions of Mac folks who connect to opensolaris over NFS. -- This message posted from opensolaris.org
