[nfs-discuss] NFS Mount fs stored where???

I am poking around in nfs a little bit and I am curious as to where nfs stores 
what it mount on the mount point. I know that its kept somewhere because iostat 
can fish it out. Does it grab it as stored in NFS or in the mnttab?
