What sort of error are you getting? Frankly this sounds more like permissions than an NFS problem.
NFS has no inherent largefile limitation, at least not in the 2GB sense - the offset that's transported over the wire is 63 bits. So if the underlying file system on the server supports large files, you shouldn't be having any problems. (The above is not true of NFSv2, but you aren't really using v2 are you?)
