Brian, we did not manage to solve this problem. In the end, we just switched off the CentOS machine and started to only use the Solaris client. I would be really interested in a solution myself, as at the moment we have a SunFire x4200 we cannot make any use of. My main responsibility is not with server admin but research, so I was not able to invest too much time.
On our server, we use one ZFS pool for the home directories with a separate filesystem for each user. Once setup, this has proven to work well (at least in a Solaris only environment). We had to tweak a kernel variable to get it to a usable speed, but maybe that is not needed anymore. Keep in mind that we only have a small number (<16) of users that mainly do computationally intensive operations and no heavy I/O. Hope that helps Stephan On 8/21/07, Brandorr <brandorr at opensolaris.org> wrote: > > On 6/20/07, Stephan Herhut <s.a.herhut at herts.ac.uk> wrote: > > Hello, > > > > we are running a Solaris 10 NFS server with two clients, one being > Solaris > > 10 and the other one being a CentOS 4.3 machine.
