You are correct. That's why the NFS guys just integrated the "mirror 
mounts" project (http://opensolaris.org/os/project/nfs-namespace/). If

NOTE: this is a feature of the NFSv4 protocol ... I think this has also 
been implemented in the Linux NFSv4 client, but I'm not certain.
