Fair enough, but why does the last one (also an IP address) work but the
others fail? That seems inconsistent at best.

I'm suspicious that it is because it is the last entry - see CR 6939733,
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6939733
which has the "same" general behavior.
I'll try some tests later and see if I can nail it.
In any case, please file a new bug.
