I have posted more work on directory chunk memory management. The big update was to add a thread to migrate directory chunks from L1 to L2.
I also need to fine tune, one thought is when a directory chunk is created to put it in L2 MRU. Then if it is actually used to produce entries for a readdir response, bump it (which promotes it to L1 LRU, where a subsequent use with bump would promote to L1 MRU).
