I agree with you on SNMP.
We are in the process of developing SNMP based Network Monitoring System.
Since netflow is being used for quite some time along with nfdump+nfsen,
we thought of exploring it for such calculations.
Regarding. processing power and network traffic, if we can do it with out
SNMP (using netflow) we can reduce the load on network devices and
network traffic too !.
