I ended up just using rrdtool to access the rrds directly.

I notice in someof the slide presentations about nfdump/nfsen there is
mention of a mysql and reporting plugin. Do you know what that is?

There is potential a better way to get the graphs by directly talking to
the socket with a perl script - it depends what
you need. Could be a bit more specific?
