I have a distributed setup with standalone nfdump collectors and central
nfsen server, similar to the solution Peter outlined @
http://sourceforge.net/p/nfdump/mailman/message/30239744/. The setup works
great for the most part, but queries over large data sets can take quite a
bit of time since data is accessed remotely.

How practical it would be to 'skew' the nfsen timeslot timer to run
+N-seconds (after a file sync is done between the collectors and nfsen
server) so that all processing happens locally?

Any other ideas or suggestions? FWIW, I've looked into vytautas's fork
that runs over Hadoop @ https://github.com/vytautas/nfdump, but it is no
longer maintained and features from the main branch are required for this
setup.
