I can expand on this just a little more, having tweaked the graphs/DBs in
my instance: The library you're looking for is 'NfSenRRD.pm'. Specifically,
you'll want to look at the 'GenGraph' and 'GenDetailsGraph' functions
therein, where the rrdtool 'graph' call is constructed.
Since I am also a Cacti user/abuser, I worked toward making my graphs look
more like those in my Cacti instance (to include printed values, etc.)

Unfortunately, my dev instance also took a power hit this morning (to
explain the gap...) Since you mentioned the background specifically, I
think you'll want to look at the '--color' option in rrdtool and probably
'BACK' or 'CANVAS'

You should find everything in the relating Perl modules RRDxxx in the
libexec dir, assuming you are familiar with the RRD syntax.
