Trump found the the rona religion back at the end of January, which most everyone seems to have forgotten about (if they ever noticed it in the first place). "To date, President Donald Trump has activated emergency powers under four separate statutes for the COVID-19 response. Trump declared a public health emergency under the Public Health Service Act on Jan. 31, issued two national emergency declarations under both the Stafford Act and the National Emergencies Act (NEA) on March 13, and invoked emergency powers via Executive Order under the Defense Production Act on March 18. On March 19, Trump named the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) as the lead agency in the COVID-19 emergency response efforts, a designation previously held by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). These actions have varying implications but collectively allow the federal government to deliver virus response funds and other assistance to state and local government... There are three sources of statutory authority for the federal government to issue an emergency declaration, each associated with varying procedures, resources and funding. These include the Stafford Act, Public Health Service Act and National Emergencies Act. As of March 13, emergencies have been declared under all three acts. Additionally, the Defense Production Act allows the President broad authorities to compel domestic industry production for the sake of national defense, including emergency activities under the Stafford Act. Have a look at the synchronicity of these state and federal acts, the draconian provisions they include, and the way in which Trump's statement about being 'militarily ready' to distribute the vaccine ties into some of those provisions. I get nothing but stony silence from 'alt right' Trump supporters and 'left' progressives alike when I point out that their illusions about Trump 'resisting' the pandemic response program is pure nonsense based upon relentless corporate media spin, which includes omitting to report on such things as Trump's incredible statement over two months ago. Then, on July 16, Trump made this rather eye-popping comment in an address on the South Lawn of the White House, and as near as I can tell it was completely ignored by the media: "My administration has also eliminated massive regulatory barriers in our battle against the China virus. These actions save countless lives, speeding up the production of equipment. That means ventilators like nobody has ever seen before. Probably the greatest source of manufacturing, the greatest achievements since World War Two. We’re now making ventilators for countries all over the world. And medicine — accelerating the delivery of lifesaving treatments and ensuring that we will have a vaccine in a record time. We’re doing fantastically well on that. That’ll be for another time, another meeting. But we are doing, on therapeutics and vaccines, incredibly well. "No administration in history has removed more red tape more quickly to rescue the economy and to protect the health of our people. When you think of it, we are all set up; that as we get the vaccine or therapeutic — and we’re set up, militarily — we’re going to be delivering it in record time. It’s all set to move. We put an investment upfront. And we have logistical people — generals, great people — they’re going to be delivering this all over the country as soon as we have it. And we’ve made tremendous progress.
