hi aaron,
i have a couple of different clients that need what you are planning to work on. let me describe their needs:

1. the organic growers school (organicgrowersschool.org) has a one day event with about 1000 attendees. they have 20 different class tracks with 4 different classes in each track. 2 classes in the morning and 2 classes in the afternoon. some classes meet for two periods. some events are held the next day at local farms. for the main day event, they would like to be able to anticipate which classes are filling during the two month registration period so they can move their class locations to an appropriate size room. some companies send several people and they would prefer to sign up and pay as a group but have the option for each person to choose different classes. in terms of payment, there is one price to attend the school but they have different prices for general public, members of organizations and students. lunch can be ordered if desired. the orders are currently saved on a secure server, downloaded and credit card processing is done in-house. many of the attendees return each year so some kind of system to remember them would be nice.

2. airasheville.org is a restaurant association. they have a taste of asheville event with about 60 events over 5 days at different restaurants plus some wine tours and a gala event. they would like to have people sign up for events and pay online and get some kind of printable ticket to take to the event. since most events have limited seating the maximum registrant function is very appropriate for their needs. i didn't think of a waiting list but that is also a great idea.

unfortunately i don't have the skills to help you develop this idea...i'm just a designer. but i wanted you to know that i'm cheering you on!! name suggestion: RegisterMe
thanks,
totsie

To all,

I have been tasked, with some funds, to develop a simple event
registration product for Plone. I have looked at this product
http://plone.org/products/eventregistration, but it is not actively
being developed. My goal is to create a product that is generic enough
to meet the needs of the wide range of groups that need simple event
registration.

Here is a list of criteria thus far

* Each Event/Signup? is a folderish type that will store Registrants
* The Registrant type must be configurable, preferably TTW using
ATSchemaEditorNG? In my experience the data that groups need to capture
event is so different (for example: canoe type) that trying to come up
with a set of fields that will fit all does not seem realistic.
* The Event must be able to set both a maximum registrant size and a
waiting list size
* Registrant is sent and email upon submission (workflow script)
* Anonymous user can create Registrant (workflow script similar to
CMFMember)
* Simple mechanism to email current registrants
* Mechanism to dump data as CSV file

I am putting this out there to see if there is interest in
developing/reviewing the code and whether the initial design makes
sense. Ideally this should probably live in the collective. One
question I have is whether I should attempt to pickup and extent the
existing EventRegistration product or come up with a new name
(SignUpSheet?) since the end product will be quite a bit different in
terms of code.

Feel free to contact me if you have any interest in contributing to this
project.

Aaron
