The features depend quite a bit on your environment (web vs. thick client).
For me, important things are: - Support for data binding to the UI - Consistent approach to managing input validation (i.e. length checks, range checks, ...) and business rule checks e.g. if customer is not VIP then discount must be < 20%) - Consistent approach to managing object state (new, changed, state of business rule validation [all OK vs. which ones are violated) - Use same business objects on client side and server side (for thick client... CSLA data portal concept supports this) Probably some other things but those are top-of-mind.
