It is important to understand that IoC is just a pattern to help you to achieve a more loosely coupled design (still subjective to call "better" because of better being subjective). it is based on the fact that clients don't need to know how to construct other systems just to consume them, so this part of the control is inverted. There are several ways of implementing IoC, injection or using a container is just another way like Service Locator or Factory Pattern. Now, no pattern can be taken as gold for every system, but since Dependency Injection and IoC encourages depending on abstractions rather than concretions it certainly helps to increase testability and encourages (not mandates) SoC. Since dependencies can be very dangerous for any non-trivial system, efficient management of them always will pay off. You can still stick to these rules towards a "better" design and not use any IoC as a pattern or tool, it is not optimal may be but certainly possible. The question has anything to do neither with NH nor with DDD per se though, so may be altdotnet group is a better group to fire these design questions towards.
