I was referring to the dumb debate, not your original question. I
agree things spin out of control here more often than they should. How
can we fix it?
Thanks,
Jason

Well, I just asked an honest simple question. I agree it spun
into a
dumb debate, but frankly, I just wanted to know the answer to a simple
question. If every damn question on this list has the high risk of
spinning
out of control, I really think the problems are deeper. To be honest
I'm
pretty tired of asking a simple question and ending up in a stupid
debate
about irrelevant things, as this isn't the first time this happens
here when
I asked a simple question. The previous painful one was when I
wanted to map
M:N relationships which are objectified and ran into problems with the
mappings.
Fabio doesn't have to defend his decision to spend some free time
on his
own
OSS project. It's his free time.
Frans doesn't have to defend his decision to support FNH and XML
and not
ConfORM in his commercial product. It's his product and his career.
I'm not defending anything and neither should anyone else, as it's
besides the point of the simple question I asked. For the record, I
asked
the question because I really didn't (nor do I now) know the answer
to it.
And it IS a relevant question IMHO, especially with the direction NH
is
about to go or will go or is hoped to be going... I don't know about
that,
hence my question.
None of these decisions have any direct affect on NHibernate. NH only
supports xml mappings and their deserialized equivalent.
As for the argument that NHibernate has too many options, there is
only
one
response: That ship has sailed.
* If you aren't happy with the documentation of NHibernate,
become the
project's technical writer.
* If you aren't happy with the way tech support is handled, make a
proposal to fix it.
* If you don't like the NHForge website, offer to fix it.
* If you don't like the direction of the project, start a
discussion
on
the dev list and argue your case logically and respectfully.
This is open source. The only choice is contribute or don't
contribute.
Don't berate the volunteers.
May I ask what this has to do with a simple question like the one I
asked? I.o.w.: can I only ask questions like the one I asked when I
have
contributed? A debate/discussion isn't bad, it shows opinions and
could give
better insights. However my experience here is that a group really
wants to,
and another group really feels assaulted the second you post a
message, at
least that's how it looks.
