It turns(ed) out to be a FluentNHibernate problem. I changed the code in my test application to use NHibernate's built in mapping and it works perfectly, just as you said.
Now there is much work to do, to replace FluentNH by NH mapping in my real application :( But I'm not too sorry about getting rid of an additional dependency.
