The change in relay styles came many years ago. The original was a bimetallic
strip that did actuate by heat. The new one is a solid state device that does
work much better. The Phone Co. (Ma Bell) used to use a motorized relay that
worked regardless of load. They were cherished by racers since they would work
with trailer lights. Can't find one anymore. Thank you (and your bike thanks
you) for using OEM replacements. More money but less trouble. Bike mechanics
are lazy, we hate to work on our own stuff. We get too much of it on the job.
Consequently, we go with known parts for less fuss. I hope that CB1100F gets a
good home, too few are left.

Can't speak to the CB1100 issue but as for your turn signals, that is
precisely how my relay died. I believe those relays are thermally
actuated and that's why it needed to run for about 10-15 minutes
before it would function....then eventually not at all. I bought a new
Honda OEM relay and they have changed. The old is a round cannister
type, the new is a square box but it still plugs right in with the
original plug.

It was suggested to me to get a standard flasher from an auto parts
store and cut the plug on the bike's loom and use solderless
connectors. It would be much cheaper to go that route but I kept it
all OEM, I didn't want to start with the "jury-rigging" so I
caoughed
up the $42 bucks for the new relay.
