Hi Sue

Old bikes are like women : sometimes difficult to know what is wrong with
them...

I suggest two things :

- Get the electrical connectors disassembled and cleaned with an electrical
connector cleaning spray, plus the toothbrush : I suggest you use and old
one, except if you like the taste of the spray. Insist on the connector
which joins the pulse detector in the engine to the cdi module : very small
currents go through this connector and a minimum (and normal) amount of
oxyde at the contact zone creates a serious impedance which weakens the
pulses, giving thus hasardous ignition. Sometimes just opening and closing
a few times the connector fixes the bug. I saw it many times in computers :
taking a connector off/on a few times clears the oxyde from the contact and
fixes the problem.

- Open your cdi module and change the electrolytic capacitors. They get old
and loose their storage properties. The cdi module becomes then lazy and
you get a poor ignition. You need a soldering iron and unsoldering pump to
do this.

Of course, as I wrote it upper, it can be difficult to know what is
wrong... could be something else.

Best regards
Jean-Pierre
