Ok, so I was invited to go for a weekend ride with some other bikers from my church. There ended up being 8 of us- four Harleys, one Shadow 600, one Suzuki Hayabusa, one Yamaha 650 Classic, and my 98 750 Nighthawk. We rode about 120 miles over two lane twisty mountain roads, concrete freeways, and along the Pacific Coast Highway. At a couple of stops we were parked next to a lot of Harleys, and it was interesting to see that mine was the only Nighthawk among the group. I had several bikers ask about my 750, and the predominant comment was on how the Honda 750 has evolved and how comfortable it looks and its reliability. While the Hayabusa was impressive in its acceleration and handling, the owner commented on how well I was able to stay with the group and said he would gladly own a NH if he had a chance, since he said his bike was "scary fast" sometimes. The Harleys are a breed all to themselves. I like the guys, but can't see spending more on a motorcycle than on a new car. Overall, I am glad that I own a bike that does everything well, is easy to maintain, and has enough of a history to become the topic of discussion in the company of other motorcyclists. Our Nighthawks may not be large numerically, but they have demonstrated that they are not obsolete and are going to be around for a long time.
