It's a cable and I used some cable lubricant arisol type that came
with a handy cable luber for about 30 bucks.  But before i got the
luber I used to just use some air tool oil in the speedo end but it
sure takes a while for it run down.  You should also check that the
little gear in the front wheel hub is tight, as the plastic nut has a
tendancy to crack.
