I wouldn't blame the amoral corporations for acting the way they are designed
to act.  I'd blame the citizens who elect the officials who allow the laws to
be passed that protect the corporations and property over individual and
sociatal rights.  I'd blame those who listen to the ignorant likes of a Milton
Friedman and award him the Nobel Prize, who listen to the backward thinking of
Allen Greenspan, who favor the gutting out of the domestic means of producing
wealth, those like Ronald Reagan who lies about how to report the unemployed,
who think that dirivitives are a source of wealth and think an economy can be
built on them.  That's you and me brothers and sisters.  Keep electing them and
you get what you vote for.  What's the surprise?  Just because shit is hitting
the fan???

I try not to by anything from wally world, the store is just too frustrating.
The parking lots are all poorly designed, the damn aisles are too narrow and
crowded, they're always out of stock on what I need, etc etc. I prefer Target
and go there mostly except when we're out of catfood. Damn parsnickity cat will
only eat the walmart brand special kitty. Atleast she has cheap tastes ;)

Btw everyone, I'm riding around on an '83 Sabre V45 the next 2 mos. My buddy at
work just bought it then had to go in for shoulder surgery and doesn't want it
sitting still while he rests up. Its alot like my nighthawk, except that it's a
watercooled V4 instead of an aircooled inline. Rides much the same tho.

That is the nature of big corporations:

I hate to go so far off topic, but while Sam Walton was alive Wal*mart was
still on its "Made in the U.S.A." kick. It wasn't until after he passed and the
board took over that they started pushing the cheapest crap they could wring
out of China.

Stanley,

That all sounds good to me.   But this oil wasn't just for my Nighthawk.   It
was for a whole collection of vehicles I've got here.   I think AMSOIL wouldbe
wasted on most of them - they are junkers.   But, Amsoil for my Nighthawk?
You bet and I've already bought that oil and have it sitting here waiting for
me to do the change.

Oh, and I went into COSTCO here this morning and saw cases of 5w-30w for $27
which was a LOT more reasonable than Shucks Auto so I know where I'll be buying
oil from now on.

Cheers!

Those 24 quarts will only give you four nearly five oil changes, and that for a
total of 12,000 miles;  You can get five qts of
Amsoil and a filter, good for 25,000 miles or more, reduce the wear on your
engine significantly,  and increase your mileage by about 5% in the process
(some engines increase as much as 15%), and it would cost you
about $40dollars less than the two cases, or about $56 - $58.
And the 25,000 miles comes with a written guarantee.

It's nice that gasoline prices have dropped but I went into a Shucks Auto
yesterday and put two 12 quart cases of oil up on the counter (one 30wt and one
40wt ) and was told that it was going to be $98 for the pair!   I was stunned.

Each case held 12 quarts so for my $98 (pretax) I was getting 24 qts at
$4.08/qt or $16.33/gallon!!!

I carried the two cases back over and replaced them and then asked the clerk
what was the cheaperst oil I could get out the door with and I end up buying
two 5 qt containers for $12.99 each which works out to $2.60/qt or $10.39/gal.

So, my question is this:  Now that gasoline prices have come back down to under
$2/gal., what's with motor oil prices still being up over $10/gal?

My uncharitable thought is that places like Shucks were quick to raise their
oil prices last summer when oil prices peaked.   But, they've been damn slow to
lower them back down again.

And, isn't motor oil like 30wt & 40wt easier to produce than, say, gasoline?
If that's true, you'd think it would be cheaper than gasoline.

As the prices keep dropping, all I can think of is "ok, what's the catch?".
$1.90 here in South Central WA state.
