Yes, but I was assuming changing to a generator system rather than alternator, 
provided there is one made with magnets that can withstand the heat.

With the same surface of stator (magnetic field gap), if you lower the rpm, 
you will lower the voltage and thus the rpm at which you begin charging 
will be higher : say something like 2000 rpm. Also, the starter is on the 
same shaft than the alternator. You will need to change the starter to give 
it more torque. Or start your bike pushing it. Not so simple...
