There is another solution, albeit possibly costly:  Change to LEDs instead,
which would require a modification.  High end European cars are doing it...

Of course, it works, with no alternator at all, if you use your bike for a
maximum of three to four hours (with no headlamp) before recharging the
battery. Nice for a commuter bike : go to work and come back. With no
headlamp ! In France, get a ticket if you find a cop who doesn't understand
the problem. Impossible for a full day trip. The last times I did it with
friends, I had to find a bar or restaurant for lunch and ask to connect my
bike and charger on an electric outlet. What a laugh for all the other
riders : Hey Jean-Pierre, you have got a new hybrid bike ?

It works, with any battery, if you don't ride with the headlamp on and
preferably not in traffic jams by hot days. Just precise if - yes or no -
the law in your country enforces you to ride your bike with your headlamp
on, all times day or night. It makes a big difference. What I can read, on
this forum or just doing a search on google with keywords like +"Honda
Nighthawk" +"charging problem" makes me feel that a huge number of owners
of this bike have the problem and, one day or another, burn their stator
(excitation winding partly or completely shorted).

I'm aware that, finally, the NH could be an acceptable bike if I lived in a
state where you don't have to ride with the headlamp on. But as far as I'm
concerned with my own safety and really wishes to get this headlamp on -
and avoid tickets - I had rather fix the problem, or spend my time and
energy to something else and change for another bike.
