Last summer, I changed my tires - solo - for the first time. I had read reviews of DynaBeads, so - when it came time to balance - ordered some. So far, I'm happy. Between the new rubber and the beads, my ride is much improved. (I hear ya - not a truly scientific study. The improvement may be attributed to one or both components.) But the bottom line is: I will always change my own tires, and - unless a disaster occurs - I will always use DynaBeads.
