Mine does the same thing. I just ignore it and keep checking my oil. If it 
ain't broke don't fix it! HotrodMamma.

Hello Tim,

I too am new to the Nighthawk thing, just picked up a very clean 84
650 off Craigslist last month.  Mine makes a bit of noise as well
between 2000 and 2500 RPM.  Please don't consider me to be an expert,
but I have read that these bikes are prone to the spring in the cam
chain tensioner weakening, causing the chain to 'chatter' at certain
RPM's.  I have also read that although the noise is a bit of a
nuisance, it is not prone to failure.
