I think that means check the switches first, before you spend money 
unnecessarily?  You could buy new switches, put'em in and never know the one 
you took out was good, just stuck from being around tooo long.

The brake light switches are naturally open 2post switches. One for the front 
brake, and one for the rear. D/C the wires and test if the circuit is open and 
closed when you expect it to be. If the switches are good you've got a short 
somewhere in your wires.
