It's definitely factory. I bought the bike brand new in 1983, so I am
it's only owner, and never added accessories. I will attach it to the
frame and see what happens.

Here's a great story for you all: The bike's been in my garage for 20
years!!! Just got it running. Rode it for the first time since 1989
yesterday, from Akron, Ohio to Nashville, TN! 540 miles and 11 hours.
(Nighthawks are great, but tough on the long haul.)  10,000 original
miles. The Nighthawk is back!
