How's the oil? Nighthawks are touchy about the oil and you can burn up an
engine when you fail to check the oil after every 2nd or 3rd ride. It won't be
cheap if you have somebody else do anything to it of course. If I could see it
in person and hear it would help...anon! The ball is in your court on this one.
I, of course, would be happy to give you an address on where to send your
unwanted, lonely Nighthawk parts....let us know what you decide to do to your
ride.

My mechanic tells me the loud knocking I heard and over-heating I experienced
recently is due to a thrown rod, although he hasn't torn into the engine enough
to be sure yet.

I'm wondering what the group's opinion is regarding this repair.

He is going to charge me to tear it down in order to confirm and provide an
estimate. I have not the slightest idea if this is a worthwhile repair and if
so, how much I should consider or limit my spending to.

The bike does have some sentimental value to me, but money's tight and I
could really use the group's experience and advice with regard to opinions on
how to proceed and maybe the right questions to ask.

  Thanks as always.
