Yeah, it is something, perhaps, for folks to think about when they buy an
older bike that's been sitting or one you don't know the history on.

Very interesting (and sad) story.

I myself was riding my Hawk on it's original tire for about a month before
I got it replaced. The tire was "on the bike" for 22 years. It only had 8711
miles on it though. I was sliding all over the place whenever I hit my rear
brake. Very scary feeling. No tire wear or dry cracks like some aged tires
have, But it was very dry and gave NO traction. I even took my driving test
on it and the tire got loose on me a couple of times. Tires are one of the
most important parts of a motor vehicle. I have not had a bit of problems
since I replaced it though.

There's an article on-line on ABC about aged automobile tires being sold 'as
new'and how dangerous they can be. It's an interesting and scary story
since apparently no one has been paying attention to this issue. Click the
following link and you can watch the story.

This has got me wondering about motorcycle tires and if they have the same
issues.
Dennis H., do you have any wisdom to share with us on this issue given all
your years working in dealerships?
