Dunno much about it myself, so I can only tell you what I did. The
new bearings were sealed OEMs, so I popped a seal and took a peek.
The stuff in there was a clear color and looked to be fairly
lightweight, about the consistency of Vaseline. Figgered Honda knows
what it's doing, so I left it alone.

The old grease on the axle was brown and crystalized. I replaced it
with some premium stuff called Green Grease, which may be overkill.
Time will tell, but It's supposed to stand up to high temps and
water. I chose it from reading the labels on all that was on the
shelf at my local Autozone. OEM manual says use a thin coating on the
axle and in the speedo gear housing. No other specification or
recommendation.

My situation was unique in that the bearing damage was not wear
related. Bike has only 7500 miles. The previous owner had apparently
removed the wheel to replace the tire. He left off the outside spacer
when he reassembled, allowing the wheel to move back and forth on the
axle about 3/8" and leaving the right bearing exposed to the weather.
(!) That's why I thought it prudent to replace all the wear items,
including the axle itself.

A tip: Get another pair of hands involved in the reassembly. It'll
save you a lotta grief.
