It recently was time to "re-tire" my 92 NH750.? After reviewing its past tire use history, I decided to go back to Michelin Macadam M50 and M50E as they showed the longest life, about 13K miles.? However removing the rear axle revealed a problem. The ball-bearing nearest the sprocket had pretty much disintegrated. Only 3 balls were left in it. This explained a 50 MPH wobble I thought was due to tire wear. With new tires and a bearing, the bike runs straight and true again.
The bottom line: Check the bearings whenever you remove a wheel.
