Angela, your tire life will depend on what brand/model of tire you buy and how you drive. Softer, "stickier" tires handle better but wear faster; while harder rubber won't take curves like a racer but lasts longer. The rear tire usually wears out before the front. And fast starts and stops and hard turns wear tires more quickly. Some tires are also better in wet weather than others.
If you ride like most of us, expect at least 6,000 to 10,000 miles before you need to replace the tires. As tires are likely your biggest ongoing routine maintenance expense, ask your tire dealer or internet supplier customer support about what mix fits your needs. I like moderately priced, long lasting tires that are good in the rain, of which we get a lot in Florida. Michelin Macadam M50 and 50E fit that description for me. Others on this board will likely hold their own views.
