The extra money is for "smart" electronics. The gizmo turns off and on as
battery voltage changes. The cheap spread just trickles on and on. We run one
on our forklift because we don't use it more than twice a week. And then it's
only for short times. When it's needed, no time to jump it. Works for us, but
not for everybody. I'd rather discharge / recharge on a regular basis to
exercise a battery. A constant state is not all that great for a battery. A
battery in a constant state of change is healthier. I use the submarine
example. The subs made for WWII that still exist (some) are at the Electric
Boat Works in Groton. They are maintained by a crew that leaves the lights on
till they go out. The batteries are recharged then. This has kept the batteries
alive for 60 years. (Can't get 'em at Auto-Zone)

bucks) ?
